Song #2: Alone

"One is the loneliest number..."

What I find most interesting about "Alone" is not the way in which the character "uses" love, but that he's self-aware enough to be doing so consciously. A rather somber exploration of isolation, loneliness and loss of identity.

LYRICS:

One love that started to fade
He moved towards her and she moved further away
Now he's left standing

He's never known himself all alone
When she's gone, he doesn't know
who he is

"I loved you for who that made me
And I know that that's not healthy
Oh God, no... it seems I don't like me
when I'm left standing alone"

As long as there's her, it masks all the pain
Devious voices inside, they whisper his name
In deafening silence

Now without, his head in his hands,
Forced to peek inside
at the dragons within

"I loved all them because they saved me
And I know that that's not healthy
But still though, I need them to like me
I can't stand being alone"

Now what is this?
New eyes look his way
He feels again, his worth from within
He's got his fix, there's fire in his veins
He knows again he's claimed
And everything's OK

"I love you because you'll take me
And I know that that's not healthy
But just hold me and don't you leave me
Anything but just not alone"

Man, I've been anxiously awaiting this song all week. This, by far, is my favorite song you've ever written. The strings fit perfectly and the triangle is the cherry. This really is an excellent song.

YES! I have been waiting too. I love the guitar... very soothing. (Dang it, made me cry again.) That's good though. Crying and laughing release the same endorphins, so we are good. My momma liked this one a lot too!

Thanks T. Both beautiful and straight from the gut. I remember writing a poem about feeling alone. It was when Herbert George was taking time away because of health issues, and I felt alone without my pastoral partner. I didn't know when and if that would change.
Again, thanks T.

Wow, you captured the emotions of finding yourself alone, without an identity, having to re-find or refine yourself within and needing to feel OK. Beautiful - music, spoke to my heart. Thanks, c'ya

Feeling lonely. Something everyone feels and experiences...no matter the portrayal on the outside. I agree with Kalli....and the emotion it evoked. Yet so soothing at the same time. Excellent!

Man, this song just takes it all. Like Jay said, it's my favorite song out of all you've written. It's hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing; for being a true artist. Feels weird posting this here, but wanted to show support on your website and say thanks for having the guts to share your songwriting journey.

It's been said that a healthy and caring person risks being vulnerable in their transparency when their heart is in the right place, and they desire to truly give of themselves. Your heart is certainly in the right place and your songs are gifts. This year is going to be one filled with more than you can imagine or expect right now. :-)

Great use of orchestration. And I really like the raw emotion, sadness included. Very good, dude.

one word ... depth. I feel it. Empathize with it. I'm jealous, and that's not healthy ... lol ! Great song !!
